PeopleSoft contractors are engaged to implement, upgrade, configure, and support Oracle PeopleSoft applications, which remain in use across large enterprises and public sector organisations particularly in HR, Finance, and Student Administration. While PeopleSoft has not received major functional investment since Oracle acquired it in 2005, the large installed base, particularly in higher education and healthcare, continues to generate substantial contract demand for functional and technical PeopleSoft specialists. PeopleSoft contractors are expected to have deep, hands-on experience with the relevant PeopleSoft modules, whether HCM for HR and payroll, FSCM for financial management, or Campus Solutions for higher education student administration. Functional PeopleSoft contractors need deep configuration knowledge of the relevant modules alongside the ability to translate business requirements into system design. Understanding the PeopleSoft upgrade and maintenance pack process, and the challenges of managing complex customisations through upgrades, is an important operational knowledge area for senior PeopleSoft contractors. Oracle's update manager tool for cloud-based infrastructure management is also increasingly expected.

Contract Peoplesoft work sits within a specialist market defined by the characteristics of the installed base: large, complex, often heavily customised PeopleSoft environments in higher education, NHS trusts, local government, and large corporate organisations that have not yet migrated to Oracle Cloud HCM or another modern platform. Demand is steady and driven primarily by the ongoing maintenance and support requirements of existing PeopleSoft estates rather than new implementations. The migration of PeopleSoft HCM customers to Oracle Cloud HCM is generating transition-phase contract demand for PeopleSoft specialists who can support the parallel running and data migration aspects of modernisation projects. Rates reflect the specialist and increasingly scarce nature of deep PeopleSoft expertise.

Remote contract roles are delivered primarily from the contractor's own location rather than the client's premises. In the UK contractor market, "remote" covers a range of arrangements, from fully remote with no on-site requirement through to predominantly remote roles that involve periodic travel for workshops or stakeholder meetings, typically a few days per month.

Technology, data, and digital roles offer the broadest remote opportunities, while financial services and government clients more commonly require hybrid arrangements. Contractors evaluating remote opportunities should clarify on-site expectations before accepting, as definitions of "remote" vary between clients.

Contract rates for peoplesoft roles typically range from £450 to £800 per day, depending on the scope of the role, required expertise, and the delivery expectations of the engagement. Remote roles may sit at different points within this range depending on the employer's location and whether any on-site attendance is required.
