Summary: The Senior Process Engineer role based in Devonport involves supporting the development of a new process system within the nuclear industry, with a focus on delivering engineering deliverables under the guidance of a principal process engineer. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of a new process system within the nuclear industry.
  • Deliver typical process engineering deliverables with oversight from the projects principal process engineer.
  • Conduct typical process calculations such as pressure drops, mass balances, equipment sizing, and relief calculations.
  • Write Process Descriptions and Cause & Effect Matrices to a detailed design level.
  • Understand process control, instruments, alarms, and interlocks.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and EC&I disciplines for typical design projects.
  • Identify and analyze hazards associated with process systems (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP).
  • Review legacy documentation and draw conclusions/summaries.
  • Write clear commissioning instructions and support commissioning activities.

Key Skills:

  • 3-6+ years' experience of designing process systems.
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry, preferably nuclear.
  • Good understanding of P&IDs and associated drafting standards.
  • BEng/BSc in chemical/process engineering or similar degree.
  • Ability to write concise and comprehensive reports.
  • Hands-on experience and understanding of plant operations.
  • Commissioning experience.
  • SC clearance (desirable).
  • Masters' education and CEng or working towards it (desirable).
  • Understanding of IEC 61508/61511 (desirable).

Job Requirements:

  • Support the development of a new process system within nuclear industry
  • Delivery of typical process engineering deliverables with oversight from the projects principal process engineer
  • Understanding of nuclear safety case processes

Essential:

  • 3-6+ years' experience of designing process systems.
  • Experience of working in a highly regulated industry, strong preference to nuclear.
  • Ability to conduct typical process calculations such as pressure drops, mass balances, equipment sizing, relief calculations
  • Good understanding of P&IDs, associated symbols and drafting (overseeing drafting of) them to industry standards
  • Ability to write Process Descriptions and Cause & Effect Matrices to a detailed design level
  • Understanding of process control, instruments, alarms, interlocks etc
  • Understanding of interactions with mechanical and EC&I disciplines for a typical design project
  • Understanding of hazard identification and analysis associated with process systems (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP etc)
  • Understanding of nuclear safety cases including SFRs, SSCs and change requests.
  • BEng/BSc in chemical/process engineering or similar degree.
  • Experience checking design documentation desirable.
  • Ability to write concise, but comprehensive reports
  • Ability to review legacy documentation and draw conclusions/summaries
  • Hands on experience and understanding of how plant works
  • Commissioning experience and ability to write clear commissioning instructions
