Overview

An established organisation within the UK nuclear sector is seeking an experienced Technical Author to support the delivery of engineering and project documentation across high-hazard environments. The role involves producing clear, accurate, and structured technical information to support operations, plant activities, and procedures. Candidates must be eligible for, or hold, DV clearance.

The Role

Responsible for the preparation, development, and presentation of technical documentation to communicate engineering processes, safety considerations, risk, and operational procedures. This will involve researching, analysing, and evaluating technical data to produce clear and compliant documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Document Creation & Control
    • Produce technical documentation including: Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Inspection & Test Plans, Lift Plans, System Information Sheets, Maintenance Instructions, Change Control Documentation
    • Review and provide input on documentation such as: Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), Requirements documentation
    • Ensure all documentation aligns with current engineering standards and best practices
    • Structure and format documents clearly, including use of illustrations where required
    • Proofread and edit own and others’ work for accuracy and consistency
    • Maintain document control, indexing, and archiving systems
    • Support site visits and inspections where necessary
  • Technical Liaison & Support
    • Collaborate with engineering, project, and site teams to gather and verify technical information
    • Support communication with clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders
    • Contribute to project meetings and respond to technical queries
    • Assist with project scheduling and highlight risks, delays, or scope changes
    • Provide technical input into bids and tender submissions where required
  • Commercial Awareness
    • Understand the impact of work on project delivery and business performance
    • Support adherence to project schedules and reporting requirements
    • Contribute to continuous improvement and knowledge sharing across the organisation

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • ONC or equivalent in Engineering or related discipline (essential)
  • HND or Degree in Engineering (desirable)
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (desirable)
  • Health & Safety certification (e.g. IOSH) (desirable)

Experience & Knowledge

  • Proven experience producing technical documentation within regulated environments
  • Background in radiological processing, nuclear, or waste handling environments
  • Experience reviewing and editing technical documents
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Familiarity with document control and records management systems
  • Experience working to tight deadlines across multiple projects
  • Knowledge of relevant standards and regulations (e.g. ISO 9001, 14001, 18001)
  • Understanding of LOLER regulations (desirable)
  • Experience working with confidential or sensitive information
